November 2017 marks twenty-five years Jayne and I have been released into the community by our friends to follow Jesus and discover what it means to “love one another.” It started in a living room where we gathered six couples to consider walking with us in a journey of ministry in Santa Cruz and the Central Coast. From there a core group was formed, that has changed over the years but continues to be instrumental in praying for us and seeing that our day to day needs are met.
In 1992 it started as an experiment to see if it is true that we could live without a month to month guaranteed paycheck and trust God to meet our needs. (We don’t recommend this life for everyone. It is definitely a calling in the context of a supportive community.) There have been many times when doubts and fears crept in and we were ready to go back to finding a “real job” that would provide more security, if there is such a thing. The community around us continued to encourage us to stay on the path. I remember the time having lunch with a friend and he asked me about our finances. I told him that this month we were struggling to make our house payment. He wrote me a check on the spot. We cannot do this work alone.
It should not have surprised us that this was God’s intention for us all along. He gave us example after example in Scriptural accounts of people working out their faith in a community of like-minded relationships. He even showed us a day to day model in His life choosing a few friends on a journey that shows us the likeness of the Father.
As we approach this season Jayne and I are extremely grateful for you, our friends who have come around us these years. We have a profound sense of contentment in the life that we have been given.
Thank you for being a blessing to us and our family.
Rich and Jayne Price
